You often have to work very hard to plan a trip away. You have to organize your transportation tickets and itinerary, budget out your costs and figure out where you will stay. You have to map out the attractions you want to see and how you will get there, too. Sometimes this causes you to overlook a very important plan: your packing plan! Read on to find out how to make your luggage the least stressful part of your trip.

It is always important to have the right tools for the job, and that rings true when it comes to your luggage. Not only do you want sturdy, durable bags to carry your stuff, it should also be very unique. If you buy a bright pink bag with a specific pattern on it, you’ll have no problem spotting it on the conveyor belt or even in the Lost & Found luggage area. You also will easily be able to describe it to airline staff if it does end up going missing.

As there are many rules when it comes to carrying liquids onto a plane now, you should buy sample sized versions of your toiletries. These are often available in the drug section of mass merchandisers and can include shaving cream, lotion, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, even pain killers or other drugs. Consider what the hotel might supply for you, if you are staying in an upper class establishment which offers toiletries for free, so you don’t duplicate on what you will already be provided.

Consider what exactly you will be doing on your trip and bring clothes which are appropriate. Will you be eating at a fine dining establishment? If not, skip the high heels, suit or evening dress. Bring clothes which will easily mix and match, such as neutral colors and jeans, so that you can wear the same top or bottom for a few days without anyone noticing. This will lighten your load and save you from excessive baggage fees. Don’t forget to bring some accessories, such as scarves, belts, hats and jewelry, to spice up your wardrobe.

Be sure to bring enough of your medications to not only cover you for the length of your trip, but also a little extra. You never know when your pill might fall down the sink or your trip ends up extended due to a hurricane or earthquake. If you are taking a week-long trip, bring 10 doses of daily medications. If you take over-the-counter items, such as pain killers, you don’t have to worry as much as you can likely buy them locally.
